Homework – Weeks 5, 6 and 7, Term 4

bookreview

For the next three weeks, students have decided they would like to do another book review for homework. In class today we have created the criteria for this task.

As a part of the book review, students will need to select a book and then complete a wide range of activities exploring the book in more detail. It is important to remember to select a book that you think is appropriate for you – no point picking something too easy.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Book Review – by Zenia.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth book in the Harry Potter series. Written by J.K.Rowling, these books have a great way of capturing the reader’s imagination.

Harry Potter enters his fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with confusion, excitement and the feeling that he will challenged greater than ever before. In this book Hogwarts will be taking part in the legendary Triwizard Tournament, held between three famous wizarding schools every century, or so; and this year the Tournament will be held at Hogwarts! From each school one representative must take part in three challengingly dangerous tasks, and the winner will be awarded fame, glory, 1,000 Galleons and the shiny Triwizard Cup!

The Triwizard Tournament is always celebrated with an air of excitement, and it is no different this year…but why then does Harry feel distracted…why is he worrying about other things, while all of his friends are in a fun, worry-free mood? Could it possibly be something to do with his lightning shaped scar burning momentarily or him seeing strange visions?

And what are these three dangerous tasks? Who are the three representatives from each of the schools? How does all this effect Harry?

You’ll have to read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire to find out!

I would rate this book 10/10. It’s so interesting and full of mysteries and twists! I recommend it to anyone and everyone!

Malinthi’s book summary of Narnia and the voyage of the Dawn Treader.

This is my summary of the third book of the chronicles of Narnia-the voyage of the Dawn Treader.

The youngest of the Pevensie kids are forced to come and live with their wretched cousin Eustace because their older siblings are away and their mother wants a proper holiday with their father. During that stay they are brought back to Narnia with Eustace. They are taken abroad the Dawn Treader which is Caspian’s ship. However there are no wars to fight, they haven’t been summouned so no one has any ideas as to why they are back. But they are told by Caspian that he has left his kingdom to look for seven friends of his father who were banished in the time of his uncle’s reign.

Each of them had a sword to protect by Caspian’s father….but not any ordinary swords. As they go looking for these seven men and thier swords, they are plunged into adventure of the sort they could never have imagined! To overcome the evil trying to destroy them, they’ll have to destoy the evil in themselves! This proves to be difficult as time goes on! Will they be able to find all these swords and thier protecters and what dangers lurk on thier way? Read the book and find out!

This is really interesting book. It has a good mix of adventure, fantasy and even humour! If you like reading books that are out-of-the-ordinary you might like to try this one! It is in a series with being the third after The lion, the witch and the wardrobe and Prince Caspian! THIS IS A REALLY GOOD BOOK!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone- Book Review.

For my book review I am going to review Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, by J.K Rowling.

This book is about a boy named Harry Potter and his adventures through the fantastic wizarding world. He is only just 11 and astonished by what he discovers about his past, present and future at Hogwarts- School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry and his newfound friends, Ron and Hermione, are of on a quest throughout Hogwarts to find what the Philosopher’s Stone is, and why it’s so important. But they better watch out, because Hogwarts is full of mysteries and magical creatures.

The book, to me, was very interesting, and I would recommend it to people of all ages. This first book of the Harry Potter series is definitely great, and I think anyone would agree! I would rate this book 8/10.

So, people out there, you should get reading ’cause Harry Potter is waiting for YOU!

Skeleton Creek by Liam

 Joe Buck

Joe Buck

In the book there are two main characters called Sarah Fincher and Ryan McCray. At the start Ryan was recapping (reveiwing) what happened the night when Sarah went to the Dredge. Sarah went to alone. The Dredge is a old machine that used to mine gold in the woods. sarah went with her camera and filmed someone above out of a window. She showed it to Ryan and he didn’t belive her. Later that day they both go. Ryan falls and shutters his leg. After his accident they both were banned from seeing each other. When they were banned they were still investigating, Ryan was writing in his journal and Sarah used her webcam to search things.

The book is a Horror/Mystery. It’s exciting because it has a mystery backround. There are four books to read and they are Skeleton Creek, Ghost In The Machine, Skeleton Creek The Crossbones and Skeleton Creek The Raven. I think you should read it.

Book Recommendations

extThis week, I finished reading the second book in the Extinction series, Extinction 2: The Explosive Conclusion, that has just been released by author Lizze Wilcock. Well, actually, I started and finished it in one day, even though it took me until 2am, because once I finished I couldn’t put it down.

The series is about eight chosen children who need to try and defeat the evil Rufus Keller and prevent the extinction of the human race. Right up until the last chapters it has you gripped in to what the outcome will be. If you like action and adventure stories then you will love this book. It is set in the modern day and the main characters are the same age as you all – you could just imagine yourself in their place.

Below is a trailer for the series that may help to get you hooked some more.
